WhistlePig
WhistlePig Piggyback 6yr Bourbon
WhistlePig built its entire identity on rye, so turning to bourbon feels like a deliberate provocation — and a revealing one. PiggyBack Bourbon is the rye house's take on the other side of the coin: a high-corn mash bill with a touch of rye still in there, blended from distillate out of Vermont, Kentucky, and Indiana, aged six years in char #3 barrels and bottled at a clean 100 proof. Sweeter, rounder, and more openly generous than its rye sibling, but with enough backbone to avoid being soft.
Caramel corn and oak on the nose; maple, vanilla, and a creamy mouthfeel on the palate; a finish that turns herbal and honeyed rather than spiced. It shines in citrus-forward cocktails — a Bourbon Sour, a Maple Smash — where the sweetness works with fruit and acid rather than against it. A brand stretching its range and doing so with more conviction than you might expect.
