Fleurieu Distillery
Mary Ann
At Fleurieu Distillery, barrels do more than mature whisky, they carry stories. Mary Ann sits at the heart of the Matriarch Series, a collection of cask strength whiskies drawn from 225L barrels named in honour of the formidable women who shaped the family behind the distillery.
This release pays tribute to Gareth’s Welsh grandmother, Mary Ann Watkins. Small in stature but immense in presence, she was born in 1906 and trained as a bespoke tailor through London’s polytechnics. During the hardships of World War II, she kept her household resilient and resourceful, teaching women at night school how to transform worn garments into clothing for their children. Her influence was practical, generous, and enduring.
Crafted from peated malt sourced from Crisp Maltings in the UK, then distilled, matured, and bottled at Fleurieu, this cask strength whisky carries both weight and warmth. It is a confident, character driven expression that honours resilience, skill, and quiet strength. A fitting salute to a woman whose legacy still lingers in every pour.
