Carn Mor Strictly Limited Miltonduff 9 year old PX-cask

Miltonduff is a workhorse Speyside distillery — most of its output quietly disappears into Ballantine's blends and never makes it to a label with a name on it. Which makes independent bottlings like this one worth paying attention to. Càrn Mòr is the Morrison family's own label, the same family now behind Aberargie, and their Strictly Limited range exists precisely to give single malts like this a place to be seen properly.

Distilled in 2014, matured for nine years in a Pedro Ximénez sherry cask, bottled in 2023 at 47.5% ABV. Only 1,204 bottles. The colour alone — deep mahogany, almost opaque — tells you what nine years in PX does to a spirit. On the nose, dried figs, chocolate-dipped raisins, treacle, and a warm Christmas cake sweetness. The palate follows through: dark stewed fruit, vanilla cream, soft tannin, a hint of candied orange peel, and enough Speyside fruitiness underneath to stop it from becoming too heavy. The finish is long, warming, and quietly indulgent.

Non-chill filtered, no added colour. A rare window into a distillery that rarely gets to speak for itself.
