A landmark in Japanese whisky history, this bottle represents the first-ever batch of Yamazaki Pure Malt, released on 14th March 1984. At the time, “pure malt” was the Japanese designation for what we now know as single malt whisky, and this inaugural bottling laid the foundation for the globally renowned Yamazaki 12 Year Old that followed.

Produced only between 1984 and 1988, and never exported outside Japan, these early 760ml releases exist today in extremely small numbers. Bottled at 43% ABV, the First Release captures the pioneering spirit of Suntory at a time when Japanese whisky was beginning to step onto the world stage. For collectors, it is one of the most historically significant Yamazaki bottlings — a true piece of whisky history and an icon of rarity.
